There's no manual to this life thing. The truth is, we're all just winging it. The second truth though, is that somehwere out there, there's someone who's tried and tested their wings before us. I was fortunate enough to have the founder of PD4Life herself (Dr Nokuthula Mafutha) come into my life at just the right time. She didn't raise me, but she raised the ‘go getter’ woman in me that I didn't even know existed. Through her mentorship, I have gained the courage to pursue goals that were previously unattainable and unachievable. They say we should pay close attention to our mentors in life- they are a reflection of our future selves. Clearly, my future self is unstoppable. “Where would I be without my mentor?”- a question I am privileged to never have to ask.
It wasn't until later that I got an opportunity to be mentored. I didn't know what it was about or how to go about it until I met an extraordinary woman- Dr Nokuthula Mafutha. She possesses characteristics of the woman I want to become and made sure to give her no other choice but to be my mentor! I'm proud to say that indeed having someone as humble yet courageous and strong-minded as her assisting me in my journey to discovering my potential, dreams and aspirations is an indescribable experience. Being a part of PD4Life will help breakthrough boundaries previously set by long distances and diverse backgrounds - paving the way to success through excellent support.
My name Faridah Nanyanzi from Uganda. In 2009 I I started my course Btech nursing science at Tshwane university of technology where I met Nokuthula Mafutha. She was my lecturer but to me she was more than a lecturer she was my inspiration. She was young and so ambitious, I looked up to her and I remember one time she said “am going to be a professor at the age of 35 year. Today she is my mentor after my degree I realized I love teaching so I specialized in nursing education and management. My mentor became a doctor and the she encouraged me to pursue my masters degree which I currently have registered for. As a young person you need someone to look up to as this gives us drive to achieve.
